G Stow are Principal Contractor scheme members and employ CSCS accredited site staff.
We have a variety of drilling methods for various geological conditions:
- Reverse circulation rotary – Used for large diameter water well drilling generally in soft and unconsolidated formations. This method also puts less pressure on the formation wall and therefore improves development of the well on completion.
- Direct flush rotary using mud, air, water and foam – Normally used in smaller diameter borehole drilling at depths down to 900m and in all formation desities from unconsolidated to hard rock drilling.
- Cable tool percussion drilling – appropriate where water for drilling is not available. In soft formation, this method of drilling is very efficient.
- Down the hole hammer rotary – for hard rock drilling
- Rotary auger, continuous flight and bucket – used in soft formations for example, piling, soakaway, boreholes, drilling, top hole to start large diameter flooded reverse drilling

Automatic Water Level Recorders
Data loggers gather and store water level fluctuations at pre-determined intervals which can then be downloaded and presented digitally or paper format. Adjustment for barometric pressure is standard. We also utilise the latest technology allowing data to be transferred in real-time directly from the pump back to our engineers for analysis.
Pump Performance Testing
G Stow have a brand new pump performance test facility at Wallingford suitable for testing pumps up to 220 KW
Pumps can be installed in the purpose built test tank, which comprises of a 20m borehole, flow is pumped through various pipework & flow meters then returned to the borehole via baffles within the tank.
Flow, head and power is recorded from the test control panel, which will provide information for a performance curve of the pump being tested to be produced.
The test curve will prove the full operating performance of each pump and provide the efficiency of the unit.
Decommissioning of boreholes
G Stow offer a full borehole and well decommissioning service that meets the Environment Agency’s recommendation for the decommissioning of wells and boreholes.
